What the hell does mixy mean??
Short answer… nothing!
I constantly get asked where my name came from, to be honest…I’m not sure, I just remember it was a nickname I acquired near the end of primary school and when I moved to secondary school and met all these new people I wanted a change from Michael so introduced myself to everyone as mixy.
It suited me fine, when people asked where it came from I could normally come up with something of minor value to explain it, ‘I like to mix things up!’ or ‘I’m mixed up’ etc, but… really.. It means nothing! I recently found out in Finland mixy means ‘why’ I can use that for future randomness! As opposed to me influencing my name, it worked the other way round. I got a fair share of myxomatosis jokes, and as many may know that led to my alias an slightly twisted weird track ‘rabbit killer’ (check out the mixtape! ;)
A lot of people ask ‘are you a dj?’ or ‘do you mix?’ I can understand why, it seems obvious to most that I am very passionate about music. When I tell them I’m a mc the general response is ‘why don’t they call you mic? Like microphone??’ which, to be perfectly honest if I had heard it long enough ago I would have happily been known as mic! Unfortunately by the time I knew that I felt I had done too much to go and change my name, so this is where we are at!
My main reason for writing this to be perfectly honest is for the people that are yet to ask me this question, instead of rambling for time or making something up I can jus direct them to this blog! Let’s say I meet one person a week that asks me what the name ‘mixy’ is about, say I spend up to 2 minutes explaining it, that’s about 8 minutes a month, that’s about 1 hour 36 minutes a year and I’ve been called mixy for at least 12 year’s now! That’s over 19 hours!! That work’s out at under 600 people (I couldn’t say if I’ve had to explain myself to this many people but if I haven’t I’m sure I will have before my time is up) if I spent 2 minute’s explain it to all of them (I’m not saying all of these little chat’s take 2 minuet’s, some more, some less) just look at the time I could save!!
