last month i went to london with mark for the.. feraggo national uk slam i think it was called, in... godge street?? venue called the drill hall??
mark had emailed ahead saying we were both coming to enter and would be turning up at about 7.30 which they said was fine. however when we got there the compare said that they had no slot's left and though mark had his spot secure i didnt so my name would have to go on the reseve list, 1) Mixy. if one person drop's out im in. i was gutted as i really wanted to enter but said thank's an hoped i got the chance.
about 15 min's later another guy turned up that appeared to be a friend of the compare's, they had a nice chat then put his name on the reserve list after mine.
we went to our seats and the compare approached me to say he was sorry but i was not going to get a chance to read, i was pure gutted!! but said not to worry, i understand how it work's and thank's for trying.
after watching 10 - 14 act's the guy that put his name on the reserve list after mine was called up to read. i have to admit i was a little pissed off. not only did i pay £7 to get in, plus train fair with 3 rounds of drinks, not to mention plans i cancelled to come here an get mugged off cos you wanna hook your mate up! cock.
i called the compare over to enquire, i could see he knew what i was going to say. i asked what was going on, he said there's no time for me, i said i was here befor matey, he said i wasent, and so on. i could tell this guy just didnt know me and had no interested of finding out what im like or what i can do.
i took a bit of a blo that night, it got me thinking about this scene where you expect a high level of professional people yet many amatures still manage to find themselves in place's of authority. in my opinion not only the compare but one of the judges was a bit of a dick. still, mark represented peterborough nicely and got to read in the final! think he ended 3rd out of about 25! BRAP!
i was a bit put off from that experiance but then i got shortlisted for peterborough poet laureate, that made me feel a bit better.!
